Drag and drop any text-based PDF — bank statements, contracts, reports, forms.

  2. 2

    Text is extracted in-browser

MuPDF WASM reads the PDF structure and extracts all text blocks and paragraphs — no server involved.

    Word document is built

The extracted text is assembled into a standard .docx file with page breaks matching the original PDF.

  4. 4

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the PDF to Word converter work?

This tool uses MuPDF (a WebAssembly PDF engine) running directly in your browser to extract structured text from your PDF — preserving paragraph order and layout. It then packages that text into a standard .docx file using the OpenXML format, which Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs can all open and edit.

Will my PDF file be uploaded to any server?

No. Your file never leaves your device. All processing runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly (WASM). You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the conversion will still work.

What types of PDFs can be converted?

This tool works with text-based PDFs — documents created digitally such as bank statements, salary slips, contracts, reports, ITR forms, and any PDF where you can select and copy text. Scanned or photographed PDFs (image-only) first need OCR — use our OCR PDF tool to make the text selectable, then convert here.

Will the formatting be preserved?

Text content and paragraph structure are preserved. However, complex layouts like multi-column text, tables, headers and footers, and images are not retained in the Word output. The result is a clean, editable document with all text content — ideal for copying, editing, and reformatting. For perfect layout replication, a server-side conversion service would be needed.

What Word processors can open the .docx output?

The output is a standard OOXML .docx file compatible with Microsoft Word (2007 and later), LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs, WPS Office, and Apple Pages. Simply download the file and open it in any of these applications.

Is there a file size or page count limit?

There is no hard limit. Very large PDFs (100+ pages) may take a minute to process since everything runs in the browser. The progress message will keep you informed. For very heavy PDFs, consider using the Split PDF tool first to break it into smaller parts.
